In this video, we’re going to talk about how you know if your headaches or migraines are actually coming from your neck or cervical spine.

There are lots of things that cause headaches and migraines. Everything from sinus headaches, tension headaches, cluster headaches, classic migraines, and more. But second, one of the major causes of head pain, and unfortunately it is also one of the most overlooked causes of headaches is referred pain from the neck or cervical spine.

Dr. Grant Cooper from Princeton Spine and Joint Center discusses how neck pain and issues with the cervical spine can often be the underlying cause of headaches and migraines. Referred pain from the neck can present as head pain, and it’s a frequently overlooked factor in chronic headache sufferers. Dr. Cooper explains the different types of neck-related headaches, including cervicogenic headaches, and provides insight into how the neck can trigger or contribute to migraines.

He outlines common sources of neck pain that can refer to the head, such as cervical facet joints, intervertebral discs, and myofascial pain from muscle tension. Dr. Cooper shares methods to determine if your headaches are related to your neck, including physical therapy, exercises, and even injections in certain cases.
